While there are many places across the globe that would make an idyllic destination wedding, few are as renowned as the Riviera Maya.
The Riviera Maya (Cancun, Isla Mujeres, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Puerto Aventuras, Akumal and Tulum) features world-class beaches and restaurants, man-made and historical attractions, diverse cultural sites, perfect weather, the Caribbean Sea and, not to be overlooked, a modern international airport.
Of course, one of the concerns our clients have when considering a destination wedding in Mexico is the threat of crime. However, this area happens to be one of the safest in Mexico. For the last few years, the entire state has had lower crime rates than Wichita, Kansas!
We know. All this sounds absolutely dreamy. But with more than 100 hotels and resorts to choose from along 80 miles of coastline, as well as six distinct communities and two islands, where do you even start on your search?
South Asian weddings in Riviera Maya
Let’s break it down.
The two styles of vacation destinations at Riviera Maya
This area of Mexico features two distinct styles of vacation destinations:
– All inclusive
– Non-inclusive
All-inclusive resorts have unlimited food and drink, multiple restaurants to choose from, access to the beach, swimming pools and more.
However, if you choose to get married at an all-inclusive resort, there are some drawbacks you might want to consider. For example,
– Some of these resorts lose their personal touch because of the sheer number of weddings they host each week
– Chances are your wedding could be witnessed by lots of strangers – in their beachwear
– Your wedding planner will likely be organizing several wedding on a day or week, leaving you scrambling for help during crunch time
– Most all-inclusive resorts have contracts with vendors. If you don’t want to use these vendors, you’ll likely have to pay a fee
Your destination wedding travel agent can help you find the right all-inclusive resort in Mexico to ensure you only enjoy the benefits, and avoid the downsides.

When to get married on the Riviera Maya
It’s important to remember that this region of Mexico does, in fact, have seasons. Typically, December through April is the dry season with milder temperatures (70-80 during the day, and maybe the low 60s at night). March, however, can get a bit windy.
June and July are notably hot (high 80s, low 90s), and can be both dry or wet.
August through October will also have higher temperatures (80s and 90s) but will also be humid and, very likely, wet. You might find better prices during this time, but you also face the likelihood of torrential rainstorms and high humidity.
Wherever, and whenever, you choose to have your destination wedding in the Riviera Maya, we recommend you time your ceremony to end around 45 minutes before sunset. This will increase the comfort level for you and your guests and will make for some incredible lighting for your photos.
